Puritan tannery, Runcorn

Puritan Tannery,Runcorn

This postcard harks back to the time when Runcorn was a centre of the tanning industry. The arrival of artificial leather products and cheaper imports from other countries, led to the rapid closure of the tanneries a few years after WWII. This view is of the "Puritan Tannery", situated in Halton Road. After the tannery closed, the buildings were converted for use as a lard manufacturing plant, but a disastrous fire burnt down most of the remining buildings and only the single storey building at the far end of this photo still survives and is now usd for other purposes.

The reverse side of this postcard had not been used, and is not displayed
